For our DNA research, we already collected DNA samples (feathers) of different colour mutations in different genera.
For the next step we are looking for feathers of:
- Agapornis personatus: dec, pastel, NSL ino (can be in combination with other mutations)
- Agapornis fischeri: dec, pastel, NSL ino (can be in combination with other mutations)
- Agapornis roseicollis: palehead, orange face (can be in combination with other mutations)
We extract the DNA from feathers. Based on the DNA amount we got from the lovebird samples, tail feathers were much better than body feathers as tail feathers are bigger and have more DNA extracted. So ideal is if you can provide us 5 tail feathers from each bird, but of course other body feathers are also possible, but then we need a large amount (10 – 15).

It is best to pack these feathers per bird in a plastic bag, state the species, colour and possibly ring number and include – if possible – a photo(s) of the sampled bird. Here you can download an excel file and fill out all your details about the samples. You can send this file together with the digital pictures to admin@ogvzw.org.
