As soon as the show season starts, questions and comments start pouring in again about judging, standard requirements, and decisions made by technical committees. While I greatly appreciate everyone’s involvement and passion, I would like to offer a brief clarification on this matter.
In 2011, I stepped down as president of BVA-International. From that moment on, our focus shifted entirely to scientific research. At the board’s request, I remained involved until 2019 solely with the theoretical and scientific training of the judges — explicitly not with the practical side of their training.
Consequently, I hold no official role in decisions surrounding judging, show regulations, standardization, or judges’ policies. Our contribution has always been purely advisory, and only when specifically requested. Actual decisions are made, as they should be, by the executive members of the technical committee (EMTC).
I am also in no way involved in these types of decision-making processes within other associations — and this naturally applies just as much to canaries and European native birds.
In other words: if you have official questions, substantive feedback, or comments about judging and standard requirements, I kindly ask you to contact the members of the relevant Technical Committee directly. They have access to the correct information and are best equipped to assist you.
As a result, questions regarding these topics will no longer be answered.

Je kunt er eigenlijk de klok op gelijkzetten: zodra het tentoonstellingsseizoen start, stromen de vragen en opmerkingen weer binnen over keuringen, standaardeisen en beslissingen van technische comités. Ik waardeer die betrokkenheid en passie enorm, maar wil hier graag even kort helderheid over scheppen.
In 2011 ben ik gestopt als voorzitter van BVA-International. Vanaf dat moment is onze focus volledig gegaan naar wetenschappelijk onderzoek. Tot 2019 hielp ik op verzoek van het bestuur nog wel mee met de theoretische en wetenschappelijke opleiding van de keurmeesters — dus uitdrukkelijk niet met het praktische gedeelte.
Een officiële rol in beslissingen rondom keuringen, reglementen, standaardisering of het keurmeestersbeleid heb ik dan ook niet. Onze bijdrage is altijd louter adviserend geweest, en dat enkel wanneer er specifiek naar gevraagd wordt. De daadwerkelijke beslissingen worden, zoals het hoort, genomen door de mensen van de EMTC.
Ook bij andere verenigingen ben ik op geen enkele manier betrokken bij dit soort besluitvorming — en dat geldt uiteraard evengoed voor kanaries en Europese cultuurvogels.
Met andere woorden: heb je officiële vragen, inhoudelijke feedback of opmerkingen over keuringen en standaardeisen? Dan verwijs ik je graag rechtstreeks door naar de leden van de betreffende Technische Commissie. Zij beschikken over de juiste informatie en kunnen je het beste verder helpen.
Vragen over deze onderwerpen worden vanaf nu dan ook niet meer beantwoord.
