FAQ: Naming order in mutation combinations
Enthusiasts often like to combine different color mutations. This raises the question: in what order should the names of these mutations be placed?
To clarify this, I have outlined the general naming convention below. International names are based on English terminology. The name of the base color mutation (green, blue, teal, aqua, turquoise) is always placed at the end. In other words, a mutation is described as a combination of certain factors within the blue series, green series, and so on.
Immediately before the base color come any dark factors present. This is logical, as the dark factor is always linked to the base form. Before these come:
- dominant factors affecting the appearance of basic psittacofulvin mutations
- eumelanin mutations
- mutations affecting both eumelanin and psittacofulvin expression
- mutations influencing pigment expression in the mask
And at the very beginning, if present:
- additional structural changes

Liefhebbers combineren vaak verschillende kleurmutaties. Dit roept de vraag op: in welke volgorde plaats je de namen van deze mutaties?
Om dit te verduidelijken, heb ik hieronder de algemene naamgevingsregels opgelijst. De internationale benamingen zijn gebaseerd op het Engels. De naam van de basiskleurmutatie (groen, blauw, teal, aqua, turquoise) wordt altijd achteraan geplaatst. Met andere woorden: een mutatie wordt beschreven als een combinatie van bepaalde factoren binnen de blauwreeks, groenreeks, enzovoort.
Vlak vóór de basiskleur komen eventuele donkerfactoren. Dit is logisch, aangezien de donkerfactor steeds gekoppeld is aan de basisvorm. Daarvóór komen:
- dominante factoren die het uiterlijk van basis-psittacofulvinmutaties beïnvloeden
- eumelaninemutaties
- mutaties die zowel eumelanine als psittacofulvine-expressie beïnvloeden
- mutaties die de pigmentexpressie in het masker beïnvloeden
En helemaal vooraan, indien aanwezig:
- extra structurele veranderingen
