In recent months, we have received several reports from bird enthusiasts who were contacted by e-mail by individuals claiming to be “employees of Ornitho-Genetics VZW.” These individuals allegedly attempted to purchase birds or requested information about new mutations. In all such cases, it turned out that these persons were falsely presenting themselves as representatives of our organization.
Recently, someone was even approached by e-mail by an individual pretending to be a “freelance associate of Ornitho-Genetics VZW,” asking for details about existing mutations and their prices. Fortunately, this was reported to us in time, and no action was taken. Please note that we file a complaint with the relevant authorities in every case of attempted fraud or impersonation.
How to recognize genuine communication from us
- Only e-mails sent from the domain @ogvzw.org are official.
- We do not use Gmail or any other private e-mail addresses.
- We never request prices and never act as intermediaries for purchases “on behalf of friends.”
When Ornitho-Genetics VZW purchases birds for research purposes — which happens occasionally — this is done exclusively through licensed exporters.

De voorbije maanden ontvingen we meldingen van liefhebbers die via e-mail ‘door medewerkers van Ornitho-Genetics VZW’ gecontacteerd werden om vogels aan te kopen of informatie te geven over welke nieuwe mutaties ze hadden. In alle gevallen gaat het echter om personen die zich onterecht als vertegenwoordiger van onze organisatie voordoen.
Onlangs werd zelfs iemand via e-mail benaderd door een persoon die zich voordeed als “losse medewerker van Ornitho-Genetics VZW” en informatie vroeg over aanwezige mutaties en prijzen. Gelukkig werd dit tijdig bij ons gemeld en werd er niet op ingegaan. Het mag duidelijk zijn dat wij bij elke poging tot misleiding klacht indienen bij de bevoegde instanties.
Hoe herken je echte communicatie van ons?
- Enkel e-mails met het domein @ogvzw.org zijn officieel.
- Wij gebruiken geen Gmail- of andere privéadressen.
- Wij vragen nooit prijzen en treden nooit op als tussenpersoon bij aankopen “voor vrienden van ons”.
Wanneer Ornitho-Genetics VZW vogels aankoopt voor onderzoeksdoeleinden — wat af en toe gebeurt — gebeurt dit uitsluitend via erkende exporteurs.
